Our Sri Lankan adventure with the lovely Mr.Marian’s Family began on the coast in Negombo. After a relaxing beach morning and delicious seafood lunch, we ventured inland to Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage. Witnessing these gentle giants being cared for captivated everyone, especially the daughter!

Next, we journeyed to Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka’s ancient capital. Here, the Rumenias explored magnificent stupas and ruins, gaining a deeper understanding of the island’s rich Buddhist heritage. A highlight was the sacred Bodhi Tree, said to be a descendant of the tree under which Buddha attained enlightenment.
Day two offered hidden gems. We embarked on a scenic drive to Habarana, stopping at a spice garden where the Rumenias learned about Sri Lanka’s spices and even participated in a cooking demonstration. A thrilling jeep safari in Minneriya National Park rewarded us with sightings of a majestic elephant herd!
Our journey continued towards the breathtaking Sigiriya, a colossal rock fortress. Climbing the steps to the summit was a challenge, but the panoramic views and fascinating ruins were well worth it. The Rumenias were truly connected to Sri Lanka’s history and culture by the end of day two.
Day 3: Hilltops, Caves, and Cultural Delights
Our Sri Lankan adventure with the Rumenias continued with a scenic drive towards the cool hill country. Nestled amidst rolling hills and tea plantations, Kandy, Sri Lanka’s last royal kingdom, awaited. Here, we visited the Temple of the Tooth Relic, a sacred Buddhist site housing a tooth of the Buddha. The vibrant cultural experience, with its drummers and dancers, truly captivated the Rumenias.
Leaving Dambulla behind, we embarked on a short journey to Kandy, famous for its cave temples. These ancient caverns house magnificent rock paintings and statues depicting the life of Buddha. The intricate artwork and serene atmosphere left the Rumenia family in awe. They also enjoyed the spice garden and were amazed with Sri Lanka Auruwedic treatments.
Day 4: Breathtaking Landscapes and Wildlife Encounters
The next day, we ascended further into the hills, reaching the charming town of Nuwara Eliya. Often referred to as “Little England,” Nuwara Eliya boasts rolling green hills, cascading waterfalls, and a refreshing climate.
Our journey continued to Ella, a picture-perfect village nestled amidst mountains. Here, the Rumenias took a leisurely walk under the shade of tea bushes and admired the iconic Nine Arch Bridge, a marvel of colonial-era engineering.
Finally, we arrived at Yala National Park, renowned for its diverse wildlife and breathtaking landscapes. An afternoon jeep safari proved to be an unforgettable experience. Spotting leopards, elephants, and a variety of birds in their natural habitat left the Rumenias with a sense of wonder and appreciation for Sri Lanka’s natural beauty.
Days 5 & 6: Coastal Charm and Farewell
Day five began with an exciting morning safari in Yala National Park, offering another chance to witness Sri Lanka’s incredible wildlife. Afterwards, we journeyed towards the south coast, stopping at the charming town of Galle. The Rumenias were mesmerized by the Dutch Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and enjoyed exploring its cobblestone streets and charming shops.

Our final day was bittersweet. We embarked on a city tour of Colombo, Sri Lanka’s vibrant capital, before bidding farewell to the Rumenias at the airport.
A Memorable Journey Comes to a Close
While our itinerary with the Rumenia family was a compact 5 nights and 6 days, it packed a powerful punch! We explored ancient wonders, lush hill stations, and the teeming wildlife of Yala National Park, offering a glimpse into the heart and soul of Sri Lanka.
